Minor White

Minor Martin White (July 9, 1908 – June 24, 1976) was an American Photographer theoretician, critic and educator. He combined an intense interest in how people viewed and understood photographs with a personal vision that was guided by a variety of spiritual and intellectual philosophies. White made thousands of black-and-white and color photographs of landscapes, people and abstract subject matter, created with both technical mastery and a strong visual sense of light and shadow. 

My favorite series from Minor White is his Frost on Window project. I enjoy the abstraction and the detail that is in many of his shots. Being able to see the detail in the flakes of ice is very nice and seeing how it creates all these other shapes. Also, he has very good use of light and shadows to create an even more interesting frame.

#6 Lee Friedlander

Lee Friedlander, born in 1934 (Washington), began photographing the American social landscape in 1948.

   Friedlander's style focused on the "social landscape". His photographs used detached images of urban life, store-front reflections, structures framed by fences, and posters and signs all combining to capture the look of modern life.

He also doesn't hesitate to appear in the frames. Sometimes his shadow casts on the ground or subject and reflects on a show window. Furthermore, he enjoys selfies, too.

 He is known for his self portraits set from 1958. (Selfie!) it's amazing to watch his approach, as well as how he changes (and doesn't change) physically over a period of 50 years, from youthful jokester to esteemed master.

Dorothea Lange

Dorthea Lange was born May 26, 1895 and died October 11, 1965 at the age of 70. She was a gritty raw photographer and photojournalist during the depression. Her work for the farm security administration put a face on the consequences of the depression.

Brian Ulrich

Brian Ulrich was born in Northport, NY. His work focuses on consumer culture, social, political and historical issues. Ulrich's images are candid and somewhat simplistic. There is this sad familiarity that I feel when I look into his work. He is making a statement yet doing so with composition and style in mind. He appears to always have his camera on hand and looks at the world around him as something to be documented. I see his messages to be somewhat subtle but still make his viewers respond to what they see and maybe continue to think about his work and messages the next time they visit their local supermarket, thrift store, etc.

Stephen Shore

Stephen Shore started photography as a child and was mostly interested in the chemistry behind developing photos. Later in his childhood he grew to know that being a photographer is what he wanted to do with his life. Living in New York as a teenager lead Shore to becoming friends with Andy Warhol and he became inspired to take his photography to a professional level. Shore's work is like a visual diary of his travels and life. He has a sort of snap shot style that is very intriguing a raw. I personally enjoy his work because I am extremely interested in the 60 and 70s and a lot of his most know work originates from those eras. Check out more of his work at http://stephenshore.net/.

I have always been intrigued by astronomy. So, when I saw this article I wanted to share it for the people that are also interested in the planets, space, galaxies, etc. This article contains photographs that were taken from the astronauts themselves such as the first "selfie" and panoramic views. These photographs were held in auction and also exhibited at Mallet Antiques.
