           Mark Ruwedel born 1954 in Bethlehem, PA. First got into photography at Kutztown State College where he got his bachelor's in fine arts and later his masters in fine arts from Concordia University in Montreal.

The Brown Sisters Forty Years by Nicholas Nixon

I thought I would share with you one of the most recent additions to my photo book library: The Brown Sisters. I have been following this serries by Nickson since I first began looking at photography.

Nickson photographed his wife and here three sisters once every year for 40 years. Some things like the camera distance change but the order of the sisters remain constant. The sisters and their clothing/hairstyle change fairly dramatically from year to year.

Here are a few images throuout the 40 years (poor quality camera phone capture). The book was published by the Museum of Modern art so it is of the highest of quality (even though the cover is yellow).

In conjunction with Photography Is ______________ , Dawoud Bey talks about his work A Man in a Bowler Hat (1976), the first in the Harlem, U.S.A. series.

Pop-up talks, like this one, are offered on select Fridays throughout the season. A roster of speakers bring their own varied backgrounds and knowledge to bear on a single chosen work from this anniversary display. Each speaker will spotlight a work in a talk lasting 20 to 30 minutes, followed by your questions.

Alex Fradkin

Alex Fradkin is a native Californian who began his career in photography after originally studying and practicing architecture. His background in architecture is apparent in his artwork because of his focus to buildings and their design. Fradkin also photographs landscapes. The following images are from his book "The Left Coast: California on the Edge." I enjoy these images because I feel Fradkin captures the California coast and the feeling of serenity well in these images.

Lighting makes all the difference

I saw this great article on petapixel about making ordinary people look like athletes all through lighting (no post production). I am sure it took hours to get this amazing light, but it looks well worth it.

Paul D' Mato

 What intrigued me most about D'mato's work was his experiences and lifelong connections he developed from the simple question, may I photograph you? His work is like a performance piece between him as the photographer, his subjects and his audience. We must know beforehand when viewing his work, the subjects in his photographs are totally different from what they seem to be. Each person and setting is a story in itself and what lives in his photos are those moments of action and emotion that are forever existent in his work. http://pauldamato.com/

TONY KATAI

Tony Katai is a photographer based out of Detroit that is in constant travel these days. His work involves a lot of beautiful lighting and colors. I personally enjoy his long exposures and the light that he is able to capture. I could say he is one of my favorite contemporary photographers because he is young and has an amazingly creative eye. He can turn the simplest subjects into a gorgeous composition and is constantly producing work.
